Related services are supports that help a student with a disability access and benefit from special education. They’re planned and provided on a regular basis to support ongoing progress, not just in emergencies or on a single annual basis. In practice, they’re usually delivered one or more times per week for short periods of time, aligned with the student’s goals and school schedule. This regular, time-limited format keeps the student functioning in the classroom and making steady progress. Daily sessions or services only in emergencies aren’t the typical pattern, and once per year wouldn’t provide sufficient ongoing support.
